The IMportance of Computer Literacy

Tomorrows Leaders must understand the logic and processes used to program computers and other "smart" devices.  Even if someone is not planning to become a programmer, nearly all jobs require a digital and computer skills.  Additionally, jobs in computer and data processing and security will be some of the fastest growing and workers in these fields will on average earn more than most other professions.

For over 100 years, BSA has been preparing youth for life and teaching skills to better their future.  In order to help increase digital skills, BSA CAC has partnered with Code.org to host an Hour of Code Event.

During this event, youth learn the basics of computer programming, spend one hour advancing their programming skills and getting to meet role models and mentors from top tech companies from all over Austin.  Cub Scouts who attend the event can earn the Cub Scouts Can Code NOVA Award.

The BSA CAC Hour of Code event is not just for younger youth.  Scouts BSA, Explorer and Venturing members are moved to the advanced lessons and begin to work on app design and creation.  Most young adults leave the event with a basic knowledge of app graphic design and can continue their learning at home.
