Dr. Urban has been a STEM in Scouting advocate since making it part of his Wood Badge vision in 2012. He is the founding committee chair for Troops 258 (boys, 2017) and 358 (girls, 2019). Other roles have been as Cubmaster for Pack 202, Cub Roundtable Commissioner for North Shore, Troop 158 leader and Philmont trek advisor, space exploration merit badge counselor, and Wood Badge staffer. When not scouting he promotes STEM throughout the state for K-16 and graduate students, educators, and the public as the director of NASA’s Texas Space Grant Consortium at the University of Texas at Austin Center for Space Research.
Are you passionate about STEM? Join the Council committee. We have a dozen active volunteers who help plan and many more who help execute council STEM events at all levels throughout the year. Meetings alternate 4th Tu/Th throughout the year. Contact us for more information.
Please drop us an email or call before you come, but you are welcome to come and visit, to join us for some tea and ideas on bringing more STEM to your unit or to look through our library of STEM lessons and books.
