Up and Away NOVA Classes at ifly
Ready to fly into STEM! Or just learn to fly! The Up and Away NOVA Award will teaching you the basis of flight and fluid dynamics. And there is no where better to learn this than by flying at ifly!
2019-2020 Up and Away Cub Scout NOVA Classes at ifly
- Class Dates
- Aug 27th, 2019 5:30-8:30pm Completed
- Dec 3rd, 2019 5:30-8:30pm Completed
- Feb 11th, 2020 5:30-8:30pm Class is full
- Capitol Area Council STEM/NOVA Committee have partnered with ifly to co-host the classes.
- During the STEM NOVA instruction, youth will learn about terminal velocity, fluid dynamics and airfoils via experiments and games.
- After that, youth will suit up, take flight lessons and then practice their flying skills
- Whole class can last for up to 3 hours depending on the number of flights each youth signs up for.
- Classes for a maximum of 20 participants
- Youth will need to bring their latest pinewood derby, space derby or raingutter regatta ship to the class.

5:30-6:00pm - Arrive, Check in and Ball Demonstration
6:00-7:00pm - NOVA Presentation by BSA CAC STEM/NOVA Committee
7:00-7:30pm - Flight Class and Gear up
7:30-8:30pm (Flights)
Cub Scouts should be able to complete Requirements 1,3,4 and 5.
If youth bring pinewood derby, space derby or raingutter regatta ship to the class, they
can complete Requirement 2 and thus the whole NOVA Award.

If Scouts BSA would like to watch 3 hours videos about fluid or flight dynamics and
bring five or more questions to discuss, our counselors can help youth complete
Requirement 1.
