All classes will be in person Friday-Saturday, September 23-25 , 2022
Classes will be LIVE and IN PERSON. Instructors are experts, serious hobbyists, or have careers in their field. Counselors may work with youth offline to complete pre-requisites or finish up badges if there is homework.
How does group instruction work?
Scouts will have the opportunity to complete most badges during STEM Adventure Weekend. All pre-requisites and homework will be shared in advance. From BSA's Merit Badge Group Instruction Guide: "Merit badges are intended to encourage individual initiative as each Scout selects topics they will pursue as they advance. Merit badge events may provide a means to support those interests through access to counselors and resources, but they do not guarantee the badge can be completed on-site. ... For many badges—perhaps even most of them—partial completion is not only acceptable but expected from a merit badge event."
This is a camp!
Like summer camp, the OUTING part of Scouting is an important aspect of the experience. We highly discourage phones at camp unless the class requires that technology. There will be a lot on offer at mealtimes, free time, evenings, and the camaraderie scouts enjoy just hanging out is priceless.
